What Is OIMT?

The OIMT (Oregon Invitational Mathematics Tournament) is an opportunity for the best and the brightest young mathematicians to come together for a day of competition, learning, and exploration!  This year’s contest is hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene on Saturday May 20, 2023.

How students are invited:

Students are invited to OIMT based on their performance at the regional contests held at community colleges across the state. The top 12% in each category from each regional site will be invited (rounded up). An invitation will be sent to their high school once names are provided by the regional site contacts. See the regional contests section of this site for contact information for the regional contests which normally occur between February and April.

Students may also be invited due to exceptional scores on the AMC-10 and AMC-12 exams.  The qualifying AMC score for OIMT is 90 for both the AMC-10 and AMC-12 exams. If you have a qualifying AMC score please contact Tricia Bevans

Note about 7th and 8th grade students: We are NOT inviting 7th and 8th grade participants. The ONLY exception is if the student is taking a math class at a high school (this is different than taking a high school level class at a middle school). Please email with questions.

We are still working to finalize the details of the event, but you are welcome to contact us at thbevans@uoregon.edu with any questions that you have. The deadline for registration is April 30th.

  1. Do you have a date for 2024 yet? (I am coordinating MathFest at Portland Community College this year)

    1. Portland State University hosts the OIMT this year. You’ll want to check with them to see if there is a date set already. I’m not sure who is the primary contact but you could check with Gerardo Lafferriere (gerardol@pdx.edu) who is the department chair.

  2. Hi, I think I did every steps of registrations but I’m not sure if I did correctly and I want to make sure that I registered or not. Where can I check???

    1. Shortly after registration closes May 6th (probably the Monday following) I’ll send out more information by email and indicate if there’s any part of the registration process participants are still missing. If you don’t receive an email by May 9th please contact Tricia Bevans (thbevans@uoregon.edu).

  3. Is there a registration fee? A teacher asked me this, and I realized that I had no idea.

    1. Yes, there will be a registration fee that participants will pay at registration. It will cover all costs including lunch, snack, and a T-shirt. There may be some need-based fee reduction or waivers available. Please have teachers or students contact me with any concerns related to registration costs.
